Montana State Billings knocked off No. 19-ranked Western Washington twice on Sunday in a Great Northwest Athletic Conference softball tripleheader at Cenex Stadium.
After losing 7-2 in the first game, MSUB bounced back with 7-5 and 6-4 wins. The teams played a tripleheader because of Saturday's rainout.
Sunday marked the first time all season WWU (27-7) lost back-to-back games.
"Today the girls did an amazing job of making adjustments at the plate and playing tough defense," said MSUB coach Lisa Allen. "The first game was a little rough because we had three errors and gave up too many walks. In the second and third games the girls came out strong and played great games overall."
MSUB hit six home runs on the day, including three in the final game. Nicole Colpron went 6 for 9 on the day with two home runs and three RBIs, while Kaycee Hoffman went 4 for 6 with a home run and three RBIs.
Tarn Potter, Kelly Parsons and Meg Harasymczuk also homered for the Yellowjackets.
Erika Quint became WWU's first-ever 20-game winner in the first game, pitching a three-hitter and striking out 10.
Amanda Todd pitched a complete game seven-hitter in MSUB's 7-5 win, striking out six and walking five. Annaleisha Parsley pitched 61/3 innings to get the win in the finale, allowing four runs on nine hits before giving way to Kasie Conder, who got the final two outs for her third save of the year.
MSUB is now 17-18 overall and 12-11 in GNAC games. WWU is 27-7 and 15-4.
The Yellowjackets hit the road for seven games in four days this week, beginning with a doubleheader at St. Martin's, Wash., on Wednesday.
