ANCHORAGE, Alaska — For the second time in three seasons, the Montana State Billings women's basketball team will be playing for the Great Northwest Athletic Conference Tournament title.
The Yellowjackets, the No. 4 seed, advanced to Saturday's championship game with a 76-69 win over top-seeded Northwest Nazarene on Friday night.
MSUB (21-11) will play the winner of the Alaska Anchorage-Seattle Pacific semifinal, which was not over at press time.
The title game is scheduled for 9:30 p.m. on Saturday.
Alisha Breen led the Yellowjackets with a game-high 27 points. The GNAC player of the year was 7 of 15 from the field and 11 of 12 from the free throw line.
Breen broke the GNAC free throw record with her 192nd make in the fourth quarter and now has 195. She also reached the top 10 in MSUB program history for career assists.
Rylee Kane added 17 points, including 12 in the first half, to help the Yellowjackets take a 35-26 lead at halftime.
Rachel Koehler added a career-high 11 points, more than triple her season average. Koehler entered Friday night averaging 3.1 points a game.
The score was tied nine times and there were 11 lead changes. The game was last tied 57-57 before MSUB took the lead for good.
The Yellowjackets shot just 18 percent (2 for 11) from the field in the fourth quarter, but made 9 of 13 free throws.
Danielle Jardine paced the Nighthawks (22-4) with 17 points, while McKenna Walker had 15.
NNU won both meetings against MSUB during the regular season.
