Three in-state athletes highlight a 10-player class signed by Rob Bishop to play baseball next season at Montana State Billings.
The in-state players joining the Yellowjackets are pitcher D.J. Baxter of Billings, infielder Trevor Johnson of Great Falls and Bozeman pitcher-infielder Cody Cooper.
"We are extremely excited about this recruiting class,'' said Bishop. "We feel that we have addressed all of our needs on the field and this class will help us achieve the goal of continuing our upward trajectory with the MSUB baseball program."
Baxter was 3-5 for the 2012 state champions Billings Royals last year. He hd an ERA of 4.03 and struck out 33 in 57.33 innings.
Cooper is a four-year player for the Bozeman Bucks. As a pitcher, he was 7-7 in 2012 with a 4.32 ERA and three saves.
Johnson is a pitcher who played two seasons at Miles Community College. He is 7-2 this season with a 3.96 ERA. He has 48 strikeouts in 50 innings. As a freshman in 2012, he earned all-Region IX honors with an 8-3 record, with five complete games and three shut outs. He had a 2.50 ERA.
