SEATTLE — Seattle University golfer Preston Matchett has been named the America Sky Conference player of the week.
Matchett, a sophomore from Billings Central, earned the honor after an eighth-place finish at the Kauai Collegiate Invitational last week in Lihue, Hawaii.
He began the tournament with a first-round 71 to find himself in a tie for second place. He slipped to 11th place after a second-round 74, but another 71 in the final round brought him back to eighth place, his highest placement ever as a Redhawk. Matchett’s cumulative score of even-par 216 helped Seattle University finish fourth in the team standings.
Matchett competed in all four tournaments during Seattle U’s fall season, which ended with the Kauai tournament. He finished in a tie for 20th in the St. Martin’s tournament in Olympia, Wash., and also finished 20th in the Cal Poly tournament in Nipomo, Calif.
