OKLAHOMA CITY -- All four of Wyoming's representatives at the NCAA Wrestling Championships on Thursday battled their way into the second day of competition.

Tyler Cox, Dakota Friesth, Ben Stroh and Shane Woods each finished 1-1 in front of 15,375 fans at Chesapeake Energy Arena. 

Cox (125) was the only Wyoming wrestler to win his opening-round match.

Cox, a high school standout at Campbell County High School in Gillette (Wyo.) and ranked eighth in the nation, claimed a 9-6 decision over Penn's Caleb Richardson in the first round. Cox, seeded ninth, fell to No. 8 seed Cory Clark of Iowa 8-5 in the second round. Cox will wrestle Wisconsin's Bradley Taylor in a consolation match Friday. 

The other three Wyoming Cowboys to qualify for the tournament lost their first-round matches. At 165, The Citadel's Turtogtokh Luvsandorj downed Dakota Friesth of Wyoming 7-4. At 184, Wyoming's Ben Stroh, of Chinook, was topped by No. 1 seed Jimmy Sheptock of Mary 10-3. Shane Woods, who qualified at 197, was beaten 8-2 by Iowa's Nathan Burak.

All three bounced back to win their consolation match later in the day. Stroh downed Indiana's Lucas Sheridan 8-5. The victory propelled Stroh to a second-round consolation match Friday against Lazarus Reyes of Illinois. Friesth capped his day with a 8-4 triumph over Navy's Peyton Walsh and will take on Ryan Leblanc of Indiana in the second round of consolations. Woods rallied from a 2-0 first-period hole to defeat Army's Bryce Barnes 4-3 and advanced to face No. 12 seed Taylor Meeks of Oregon State on Friday.

Overall, Wyoming is tied for 47th place with 2.5 points. Penn State leads the competition with 26.5.

Utah Valley's Jade Rauser, from Townsend, was pinned by No. 1 seed and defending national champion Jesse Delgado of Illinois in 6:53 in the first round. Rauser lost his next match by a score of 12-8 against Bucknell's Paul Petrov, after Petrov came back from a 5-1 deficit in the second. It was Rauser's second straight trip to nationals. The sophomore finished the season 10-5.
