LARAMIE — Mia Bell scored 12 points and UNLV repelled a late surge by Wyoming for a 54-51 victory Wednesday night in a Mountain West opener.
Lenita Sanford and Markiell Styles added 10 points each for the Lady Rebels (13-4), who have won three in a row.
Kayla Woodward scored 21 points for the Cowgirls (4-10), who dropped their third straight. Chaundra Sewell added 10.
UNLV led 30-23 at intermission and extended the advantage to 41-31 on Kelli Thompson's 3-pointer with 12:46 remaining.
Wyoming slowly trimmed its deficit, and a 3-pointer by Ashley Sickles pulled the Cowgirls within 47-46 with 6:45 to play.
The Rebels never gave up the lead, but two free throws by Woodward again cut it to one at 51-50 with 1:42 left.
But Sanford hit a jumper and Bell made a free throw before Sickles sank one foul shot for the final margin.
