BUTTE -- Billings West's boys beat Butte 69-67 in double overtime on Monday night and can clinch the Eastern AA title and a spot in the state tournament by winning at Bozeman on Tuesday afternoon.

Jeremiah Cochran hit for 20 points and Jared Samuelson 18 for the Golden Bears, who improved to 8-3 in conference and 15-4 overall with the exciting win.

"We kind of had a tough one tonight," West coach Doug Robison said. "I hope we can rally back (Tuesday afternoon) at Bozeman."

The Bears squandered a big lead in the fourth quarter against the Bulldogs, but made some key free throws in the second OT to escape with the win, he said.

Christian Kappel added 11 points and Danny Betcher 10 for West, which shot 17 of 24 at the foul line. Butte went 12 of 30.

Butte's Brian Smith missed a desperation shot at the final buzzer.

The Bulldogs were led by the 21 points of Dallas Cook. Peter Granger added 14 and Smith 12.

Butte connected on seven 3-pointers. West had four.

The West-Bozeman game is scheduled to start at 4 p.m.
