CHICAGO -- Jakob Woodland of Bozeman has been named the 2011-12 Montana Gatorade athlete of the year for boys cross country.
Woodland, a senior, won the Class AA state meet in a time of 15:20.65 last fall, helping Bozeman to the team title. He also finished 21st in the Nike Midwest Regional meet (16:14.40) and 24th in the NXN Midwest Regional meet.
"Jakob has incredible resilience," said Bozeman coach Clint May. "He has overcome several injuries and challenges over the past few years. Last fall, he overcame the effects of the flu during the week he won state."
Woodland is the first Bozeman runner to win the Gatorade boys cross country award. Jacob Turner of Missoula Sentinel won the award last year.
