COLUMBIA FALLS — For the second consecutive week, the Miles City Cowboys used a dominating second half effort as they advanced to the semifinals of the State Class A playoffs with a 34-13 road victory over Columbia Falls.

Quarterback Shane Cooley racked up 196 yards on 27 carries for the Cowboys and scoring four times.

Miles City (10-1) will host Dillon (9-0) in a semifinal game next Saturday.

Columbia Falls (4-5) quarterback Austin Barth completed 12-of-21 passes for 201 yards, including a pair of five-yard scoring strikes to Devyn Locker and Caleb Johnson. Barth was also intercepted twice.

After Cooley scored on a 48 yard run late in the first quarter to tie the game, Miles City took the lead for good following the ensuing kickoff. The short kickoff bounced off of a Columbia Falls player and was recovered by the Cowboys’ Clint LaRowe, and Cooley scored from five yards out to give Miles City a 14-7 lead.

Running back Kyle Stanton added 111 yards and a touchdown on 17 carries for Miles City (10-1), who will host unbeaten Dillon next Saturday.

In two playoff games, the third-ranked Cowboys have outscored their opponents 60-20 in the second half.

Dillon 49, Belgrade 26

DILLON – Junior quarterback J.T. Linder ran for 95 yards and five touchdowns as No. 2 Dillon knocked off No. 5 Belgrade 49-26 in the quarterfinals of the Class A football playoffs Saturday at Vigilante Field.

Linder scored on runs of 3, 1, 2, 2 and 5 yards to highlight a Dillon running attack that racked up 248 yards on 45 carries.

Garrett Altenburg ran for 84 yards, including a 35-yard touchdown run. Kyle Cox rushed for 69 yards and a 4-yard score.

Dillon led 21-0 before Justin Ricker put Belgrade (8-3) on the board with an 84-yard kickoff return following Linder’s third touchdown.

Kade Page added a 1-yard score for the Panthers, while Talon Taylor hooked up with Page and Ty Diebold for TD passes of 23 and 11 yards.

Butte Central 49, Polson 14

BUTTE — Jonathan Richards completed 16 of 20 passes for 297 yards, and Zach Kasperick scored four touchdowns as No. 4 Butte Central beat unranked Polson 49-14 in the quarterfinals Saturday of the state Class A football playoffs.

Richards found Kasperick for TD passes of 39 and 23 yards, and also threw a 38-yard scoring aerial to Phil Antonioli.

Kasperick finished with 13 carries for 104 yards and three receptions for 62 yards. Antonioli caught four passes for 90 yards.

For Polson, Vince DiGiallonardo went 9 of 25 passing with three interceptions for 101 yards and ran the ball 14 times for 73 yards.

Overall, the Maroons ran the ball 29 times for 141 yards while the Pirates were 27 for 139.

Butte Central (9-1) will be home next Saturday against top-ranked Billings Central in the playoff semifinals.
