WHITEFISH — Morgan Ferestad's hat trick helped the Billings Central girls soccer team beat Whitefish 7-0 on Saturday and advance to its fifth straight State A championship match.
"We started fast today and kept the ball in the attacking half for most of the game," Central coach Nolan Trafton wrote in an email. "The girls executed the game plan really well. Whitefish is a talented team with some good weapons, but we were able to control the game and finish a lot of opportunities."
The defending state champion Rams (13-1-0) opened the scoring on a goal from Solei Elletson (Ferestad assist), and Ferestad gave them a 3-0 halftime lead with her first two goals. Zoie Althoff, Ferestad, Abby Derbyshire and Sophia Bohl (Kendall Wahl assist) scored the final four goals.
Althoff dished out three assists, giving her 49 for her career, per Trafton. That broke the state girls assist record of 47 set by Billings West's Danielle Muri from 2007-10, according to the Montana High School Association online record book.

For the fifth straight year, Billings Central will face Eastern A rival Laurel in the state title match. The Locomotives (13-2-0) have made six consecutive state championship matches and won two of them (2014 and 2017). The Rams have earned nine state titles: in 2008, 2009, 2010, '11, '12, '13, '15, '16 and last year on penalty kicks.
Central's only loss this season was 5-3 at home to the Locomotives on Sept. 28. The Rams got revenge a week later with a 2-0 win at Laurel.
Central will host this year's title match on Saturday.
Whitefish finished the season with a 9-5-0 record.
