BOZEMAN – Adam Hober and Darah Newell needed sudden death playoffs Tuesday to win the 33rd annual Independent Insurance Agent Junior Classic golf tournament.

In the boy’s division, Hober of Missoula, Nick Obie of Havre and Renzi Lee of Billings all tied at 143 after 36 holes.

On the first playoff hole, Hober and Obie both pared the par 4, while Lee bogeyed.

On the second playoff hole, Hober hit a 35-foot putt for birdie while Obie made par.

In the girls’ division, Megan McDonald of Bozeman and Darah Newell of Helena tied at 149. On the first playoff hole, both girls missed the green in regulation. McDonald chipped within 6 feet and Newell within 2 feet. McDonald missed her putt, while Newell made hers.

Britney Hayes of Bozeman finished third.

Hober, Obie and Newell will represent Montana at the national IIAJC tournament in Ann Arbor, Mich., Aug. 10-14.
