Senior girls draw Sentinel The unbeaten Billings Senior girls soccer team will Missoula Sentinel in the first round of the State AA tournament, which starts Thursday in Helena.
The Billings West girls will play Helena Capital in the first round. Other first-round games: Helena plays Bozeman and Great Falls plays Kalispell.
On the boys side, Billings Skyview plays Helena and Billings Senior draws Missoula Sentinel. Also in the first round: Helena Capital plays Great Falls CMR and Great Falls takes on Kalispell.
Bird wins INFR all-around SAN JACINTO, Calif. - For the second time in three years, Cut Bank's Dustin Bird is the men's all-around champion of the Indian National Finals Rodeo.
Bird competed in steer wrestling, tie-down roping and team roping. In 2001, Bird also claimed the INFR all-around title.
Montana cowgirl Yvette Vega used back-to-back strong rounds to win the overall barrel racing title. She tied for first in the third round of barrel racing Saturday, finishing in a time of 15.01 seconds to earn $1,035. Then Sunday the Charlo cowgirl finished second in her round, three-hundreds of a second behind the first-place winner. Like Bird, Vega is also a former INFR champ.
Bird and Vega weren't the only Montana competitors to enjoy success.
Box Elder's Lyman Colliflower was the 2003 steer wrestling champion, while Browning's Jarrett Monroe won the saddle bronc title. Monroe is a former national high school champion.
