ELLENSBURG, Wash. - Alira Carpenter tossed in a game-high 26 points to help Montana State Billings defeat Central Washington 71-60 Thursday night in women's basketball.
The Yellowjackets (11-5, 3-2) continue their Great Northwest Athletic Conference road trip with a game at Western Washington at Saturday afternoon.
Carpenter, MSUB's all-time leading scorer, finished 9 of 16 from the field, including 4 of 9 from 3-point range. She also made all four free throw attempts. Jen Smith added 13 points and eight rebounds, while Jetton Meadors finished with nine points, six turnovers and three steals in 35 minutes of play.
"Our three seniors are playing very well," said Kevin Woodin, the MSUB head coach of Carpenter, Smith and Meadors. "They really set the tone. You could feel their intensity from the beginning how important this game was to them."
Meadors logged heavy minutes at point guard after Shantell Marquis got into first-half foul trouble.
"Jetton had a great all-around game," Woodin added. "She has really stepped up her game. I am pleased with her progress."
Jenn Jacobs led CWU with 17 points, while Hilary Tanneberg added 15. The Wildcats were just 3 of 17 from 3-point range and shot 36 percent from the field for the game.
