SHERIDAN, Wyo. - The Sheridan College women's basketball team defeated the University of Montana Western JV 88-33 Friday to give head coach Frank McCarthy his 500th career victory.

"It just means I've had a lot of good players and good assistant coaches, obviously," said McCarthy, a Butte native. "And longevity. I've been around a long time. I appreciate the opportunities all the colleges and high schools have given me during my career."

McCarthy compiled a record of 191-91 as the women's basketball coach at Montana State Billings from 1989 to '99. After leaving MSUB, he was the head coach at Montana State for two years before moving to Sheridan, where he's now in his eighth season.

His 30-year coaching resume also includes stops at Eastern Wyoming College, St. Labre High School and Powell (Wyo.) High School.
