HELENA – Missoula’s Collin Fehr posted the fastest winning time at the Governor’s Cup since 2007 on Saturday, Great Falls’ Jim Walmsley continued his dominance of the Montana racing scene with a double victory in the men’s half marathon and 5K, and Warm Springs’ Nicole Hunt added her record ninth victory in the women’s 5K.

Fehr, who set a blistering early pace in the marathon, lost time late in the race but finished well ahead of the trailing runners in 2 hours, 33 minutes, 41 seconds to claim a cash prize of $500 and an engraved gold pan to commemorate the discovery of gold 150 years ago in Helena’s Last Chance Gulch – site of the finish line and awards ceremony.

The University of Montana distance coach, who starred for the Grizzly cross country and track teams, averaged 5:52 per mile to take the top spot, while Paul Allison, of Jericho, Vt., placed second in 2:39:56 and Curtis Huffman, of Mobridge, S.D., finished third in 2:43:00.

Mary Owen of Billings also claimed $500 and a gold pan by posting a winning women’s time of 3:07:18, while Helena’s Mandy Fellenz was second in 3:16:01 and Helena’s Betsy Miller rounded out the top three in 3:31:47.
