SAN DIEGO -- Billings golfer Joey Moore finished in a three-way tie for second at the prestigious FCG International Junior Golf Championships, which concluded Tuesday at the Sycuan Resort's Oak Glen course.
The 14-year-old Moore, competing in the 13-14 age group, shot a 1-under 143 (71-72) for his 36 holes. Derek Kimm of Irvine, Calif., topped the field of 85 players at 2-under 142 (71-71).
The competition is put on by Future Champions Golf and drew an international field of junior players. Moore, who will be a freshman at Billings West in the fall, was the lone Montanan in the 13-14 field.
He plans to compete at the Montana State Men's Amateur on July 24-26 at Whitefish Lake Golf Club.
In the girls 15-18 ranks at the FCG event, a pair of Billings golfers, Kortney McNeil and Samantha Walter, were also competing, but missed the cut for Wednesday's closing round.
After two rounds, Walter was tied for 37th at 157 (75-82) in the field of 67 golfers. McNeil was 59th at 169 (83-86).
The cut was at 156.
