RAPID CITY, S.D. - Chase Sukut tallied 22 points Thursday night and Rocky Mountain College held off South Dakota Tech 77-74 in a nonconference men's basketball game.
The Battlin' Bears, who shot 54 percent from the field, are now 4-0 on the young season. The Hardrockers, who missed a long 3-point attempt in the final seconds, slipped to 2-3.
Rocky, which shot 63 percent from the field in the first half, jumped ahead 19-6 and never trailed in the game. Sukut, who drilled five 3-pointers, hit two free throws with seven seconds left to put the Battlin' Bears up 76-73.
Rocky's Devin Uskoski tacked on a late free throw.
"I thought in the last five minutes we did a nice job of not turning the ball over," said Rocky coach Bill Dreikosen. "That was a huge key."
Besides Sukut, Rocky had three other players score in double figures: Uskoski 14, Anthony Allen 13 and James Bulluck 10.
Uskoski also had eight rebounds.
South Dakota Tech was led by Kaleb Rehmer and Robbie Fedor with 13 points each. Brandon Smith added 11 points.
Rocky will be back in action tonight with a game at Black Hills State in Spearfish.
