Jess Lockwood and his championship buckle

Reigning Professional Bull Riders world champion Jess Lockwood of Volborg is returning to competition this week at the St. Louis Invitational. He missed last weekend's event in Kansas City because of a torn MCL  in his left knee.

ST. LOUIS, Mo. — After missing last week's event in Kansas City, Jess Lockwood is returning to Professional Bull Riders competition this weekend at the St. Louis Invitational.

The 2017 PBR world champion from Volborg skipped the Caterpillar Invitational in Kansas City after suffering knee injuries at Anaheim, California the week before.

Lockwood told Justin Felisko of the PBR website that he has a torn MCL in his left knee and plans to wear a brace while riding. The injury was initially thought to be a partial tear.

Lockwood is 19th in the PBR world standings for 2018, having ridden 6 of 17 bulls. He has two top-10 finishes.
