DENVER — Competing in the Professional Bull Riders Denver Chute Out Velocity Tour stop, Jess Lockwood finished third.

Lockwood, who has won the first two PBR elite series stops of the season, rode two of his three bulls in Denver. He scored 89.5 points aboard Hooky on Tuesday and registered an 86-point ride on Skin and Bones Wednesday.

The Volborg bull rider was bucked off in 2.12 seconds by Smooth Wreck in the championship round. The 21-year-old top-ranked cowboy in the PBR world standings picked up 105 world points and earned $9,960.26.

Cody Nance of Paris, Tennessee, was the event champion. He was the only cowboy to notch a 3-for-3 performance at the three-day event.

According to a PBR press release, before the performance on Wednesday night Nance led a group of 30 bull riders in a prayer. Patches that read "Mason Lowe, PBR Cowboy 1993-2019" were given to each bull rider to wear. A video tribute dedicated to Lowe was displayed on the big screen before rider introductions.

“I’m just thankful that God gave us the ability to do what we love to do,” Nance said in the PBR release. “Mason and I shared a passion for bull riding, and we got to do it together for a long time. I saw him ride lot of good bulls and I never saw him quit. I think he’d be glad that we came out and gave it our all tonight. This win means the world not only because it’s the best I’ve ever done in Denver, but doing it in Mason’s memory makes it even more special.”
