Gardner starts charitable foundation SALT LAKE CITY Rulon Gardner, Greco Roman gold medal winner at the 2000 Sydney Olympics, has started the Miracle on the Mat Foundation.
The Miracle on the Mat Foundations mission is education for the prevention of disease through nutrition, exercise and healthy living. It also aids those suffering from rare and catastrophic diseases by providing funding for transportation and alternative therapies.
After winning Nationals in May in Las Vegas, Nev., and the World Team Trials in Cincinnati, Ohio just two weeks ago, Gardner is now preparing for the World Championships to be held in New York in late September.
He will be in Billings on July 20 to light the torch during the opening ceremonies of the Big Sky State Games.
Gardners desire to assist those stricken with disease comes from the heart he lost his brother Ron to cancer in 1978.
