LARAMIE, Wyoming — Justin James scored 20 points and grabbed 12 rebounds to help Wyoming defeat visiting South Carolina 73-64 in men's basketball Wednesday night at Arena Auditorium.
Jake Hendricks added 16 points and TJ Taylor had 11 for the Cowboys, who held South Carolina to 29 percent shooting in the second half.
The Gamecocks led 37-33 at the half, but the Cowboys (3-3) built a 12-point lead — their largest — with 11 minutes remaining in the game. Wyoming made 10 of 20 3-point attempts, which included a 5-for-8 performance from Hendricks.
The game was a reunion of sorts for Wyoming coach Allen Edwards. His brother, Doug, is on the South Carolina staff, and Allen Edwards was coached in high school by Gamecocks head coach Frank Martin.
A.J. Lawson scored 15 points and Chris Silva had 11 to lead South Carolina, which last played in Laramie in 2002.
Wyoming will host Denver on Tuesday at Arena Auditorium.
