With spring comes roadwork and other special projects that are causing detours or slower traffic movement.
Preparation work for installation of "The Beaconing Rim" has started in downtown Billings and will continue for about three weeks.
Second Avenue North is closed from North 27th Street to North 29th Street, and North Broadway is closed from First Avenue North to Third Avenue North for the erection of the steel/sail structure, which will enclose the intersection of North Broadway and Second Avenue North.
Pedestrian and vehicular traffic should plan to use alternate detoured routes.
On King Avenue West work continues on widening the road from the bridge just west of Denny Menholt's lot to about 31st Street West.
While the work will, eventually, widen the road, right now it's making the driving surface a bit narrower to accommodate construction and pilons. The roadway is rough, with loose gravel and construction vehicles moving through the area.
The usual 45-mph speed limit has been reduced to 25 mph through the construction zone. Remember, traffic fines are higher in construction areas.
Work also continues in far West Billings, with 48th Street West between Neibauer and Hesper Road to the BBWA Canal closed for a bridge replacement.
Traffic is be restricted to local residents only. Alternate travel arrangements should be made. The closure is expected to last through Friday, May 31.
In Bozeman, Main Street is closed between Tracy Avenue and Black Avenue for a beautification project.
