More About Billings Federal Credit Union
Charter and Membership: Billings Federal Credit Union was established as a credit union in December 1935. The employees of the federal government comprised the original field of membership. A Community Charter was granted by the National Credit Union Administration in November 1999. The official field of membership is defined to be persons who live, worship, work, or attend school in, and businesses and other legal entities located in, Big Horn, Carbon or Yellowstone County, Montana, plus members of record of the Credit Union as of the date of the amendment. Over half of current membership originally qualified through the association with the US Government and US Postal Service. Many of those members or their family members still work in the downtown area, including in the James F. Battin Courthouse directly across 26th Street from the Credit Union.
