All My Sons – Montana Repertory Theater
The first of the great Miller plays—and the one that brought him to prominence on the American scene—is All My Sons. Like all early plays from most of our great playwrights, this one is full of passion, emotion, intellectual challenge and political and sociological questioning: the very stuff of great drama. Miller is a fearless writer, constantly challenging the audience to think, feel, and respond. His picture of our country is unflinching, accurate, heartfelt and ultimately still very timely. Miller questions how we arrive at truth and accountability, and with the recent headlines detailing auto recalls, government intrusion into our everyday lives and accusations of “class warfare,” his works continue to be relevant and essential. He asks hard questions, fills our hearts and minds with more questions than answers, and seeks the center of the American character.

NOVA presents Turandot
Puccini’s final masterpiece, Turandot, has everything an operatic potboiler could possibly fit into plot and subplots. Set in ancient China, this spine-chilling tale swirls around Turandot, an icy-hearted royal princess whose epic cruelty masks her fear of love, and Calaf, an unknown prince willing to face death for the chance to claim her hand. Princess Turandot sends countless suitors’ heads rolling as each fails to solve her three riddles. Calaf triumphantly passes the test. Seeing Turandot’s fury, he offers her a way out. If she can discover his name by daybreak, he dies. During the anguished night as the whole city waits, he sings “Nessun dorma” (no one sleeps), considered by many as the supreme jewel of tenor arias.
