BILLINGS, Mont. — First-half strikes from Darby McMahill and Charlize Davis lifted Rocky Women's Soccer to a 2-2 draw against MSU Billings in Saturday evening's Rimrock Rivalry exhibition.
An exhibition matchup for the Battlin' Bears allowed Interim Head Coach Kevin Luse an opportunity to snag valuable playing experience for the entire roster, as the Battlin' Bears entered 22 different players into the contest on Saturday evening.
MSU Billings opened the scoring in the 14th minute, but the Battlin' Bears responded promptly. McMahill and Davis each capitalized on scoring chances inside the box just five minutes apart, erasing the deficit and putting Rocky ahead. The Yellowjackets eventually found the equalizer in the 74th minute to bring the contest to its 2-2 final score.
While MSUB held a 23-9 edge in overall shots, including a 16-6 advantage in the second half, Rocky remained efficient in their attack. The Battlin' Bears placed five of their nine shots on frame, compared to nine on target out of 23 for MSUB. Senior Charlize Davis spearheaded the offense with a team-high four shot attempts, sending two on goal.
In net, sophomore Matea Vernon started and played the first 70 minutes, saving five of the six shots she faced. Junior Paige Whalin took over for the final 20 minutes, turning away two shots.
