The Montana Department of Transportation (MDT), in partnership with engineering consultant Sanbell, is designing a roundabout at the King Avenue West and South 64th Street West intersection in Billings. The project aims to enhance safety and improve traffic flow at the intersection.
As part of the design phase, the project team will host an open house on Monday, November 2, to share preliminary project plans, answer questions and gather community feedback.
“As southwest Billings continues to grow, MDT is working to enhance safety and ensure the transportation system continues to serve the community’s needs,” said Michael Taylor, MDT Billings District Administrator. “This open house is an opportunity for residents to learn more about the proposed improvements, offer feedback, and share their experiences.”
The in-person open house will be held at Elder Grove Elementary School, 1531 South 64th Street West, Billings, on Monday, November 2, from 4 to 6 p.m.
There will be no formal presentation. Community members are welcome to stop by at any time during the event to review preliminary plans, ask questions and share feedback with the project team.
Community input will help the project team better understand local travel patterns, safety concerns and access needs as design work continues.
Traffic has increased significantly in southwest Billings as new businesses and homes have been developed, contributing to more crashes at the intersection. A roundabout can help reduce vehicle conflict points, slow traffic and move vehicles more efficiently through this busy intersection.
A construction date for the project has not yet been scheduled.
For accommodation requests to participate in the open house, contact the project team at 406-207-4484, MDT’s ADA Coordinator at 406-444-5416 or Montana Relay Service at 711. Requests should be made by October 26, 2026. MDT will attempt to honor requests made after this date.
