Free presentation in Liberal Arts 205 on Thursday, Oct. 22 at 6:30 p.m.
MSU BILLINGS NEWS — Montana State University Billings and local bookseller This House of Books are teaming up to present an author discussion by Bozeman-based historian and writer Betsy Gaines Quammen on Thursday, Oct. 22.
Quammen will talk about her latest book This Haunted Land: Reckoning with Ghosts and the Stories that Shape America, in Room 205 of the Liberal Arts Building at 6:30 p.m. The presentation is free and open to everyone. This House of Books will have copies of Quammen's books for purchase.
This Haunted Land is not simply a book about ghosts and stories, but it takes readers on a journey into haunted towns, forgotten lives, and abandoned places. One of the places she explores early in the book is Butte and various haunted stories generated from the Mining City.
Quammen is the author of American Zion and True West, which won the 2024 Reading the West Book Award. Her work often examines the intersection of extremism, public lands, wildlife, and Western communities. She received a PhD in history from Montana State University, an MS in environmental studies from University of Montana, and a BA in English from Colorado College. She lives in Bozeman with her spouse, writer David Quammen.
Access to the Liberal Arts Building at the MSU Billings University Campus can be gained from the Rimrock Road parking lot. Parking is free after 5 p.m. in the lots or the MSU Billings parking garage.
