HELENA – The general big game hunting season begins Oct. 24 (the early youth deer hunt is Oct. 15-16), and FWP would like to remind hunters of all the options they have to buy their licenses.
No matter how or where you buy your license, they can be printed, emailed and printed at home within five days or downloaded as an E-Tag on the MyFWP app. Learn more details about the app here: fwp.mt.gov/myfwpapp.
Ways to purchase hunting licenses
There are three main ways to purchase your licenses:
Online: ols.fwp.mt.gov/ using a smartphone, tablet or computer
FWP offices: Visit any FWP regional or area office
License ambassadors: Visit a participating local business or library that provides access to FWP’s Online Licensing System
About the License Ambassador Program
The License Ambassador Program is a modernized approach to external license sales. Local businesses (ambassadors) provide a dedicated station, such as a computer or tablet, where customers can access FWP’s Online Licensing System (OLS) to purchase licenses and apply for permits. Currently there are 183 active ambassadors, 29 of which are at rural county libraries.
What to know before visiting a license ambassador
Before visiting a license ambassador, keep these points in mind:
Payment: All transactions through the OLS at the ambassador location must be made via debit or credit card. If you need to pay with cash or check, you must visit an FWP office.
Transaction fees: Ambassadors may charge a transaction fee.
Printing: Most ambassadors provide a printer, but some do not. Call ahead if you need to print your license.
Assistance: The level of customer assistance varies by location.
Some businesses that previously sold licenses may no longer offer that service, while new locations – including several city and county libraries – have joined the program.
